• Doesn't Work: Can't Preview only JPG Files

  Pros

  Wanted to see thumbnails of all JPG files in a particular folder and all subfolders. This software can't do that basic task. It shows thumbnails of all file types, including PDFs, WMFs and other obscure files that you don't care about. I tried the "Search Files" option and searched for "*.jpg". It does show the JPGs in the results file, but not with thumbnails (only as a list of files). Clicking on any of the buttons "Show in Viewer" or "Show in Thumbnails" does absolutely nothing. Clicking these buttons does nothing at all. This software is kind of useless if you can't filter by image type.

  Can't filter by image type. Tries to generate thumbnails for all image types that it recognizes. So, if you want to see all JPGs or all PNGs, you're out of luck.

  Pros

  Irfanview has been around a long time. Don't forget to install the free plugins pack, too. See Irfanview.com - the plugins pack installs almost instantly. It is so easy to browse through a folder of images with Irfanview. I always set it as the default viewer/editor of all images.

  Cons

  You may need to uninstall the Photos app that comes with Windows 10. If you set IrfanView to be the default image editor and viewer for all images, then sometimes the Photos app will try to take some of those default settings back. The only solution may be to uninstall the Photos app. Found this how-to info that has worked for me: In Windows 10 go to "Windows PowerShell". It is in the "W" section of the start menu. Right-click the PowerShell shortcut, and select "Run as administrator." Copy and paste the following line into the PowerShell prompt: Get-AppxPackage *photos* | Remove-AppxPackage Click enter. Reset IrfanView to be the default viewer/editor for all images. Launch Irfanview. Options menu > properties/settings > extensions > images only.

  Pros

  IrfanView is comparable software to ACDSee, it suitable for view your own photos, and it can also do some editing to the photos, for example, some photos are too dark, we want to brighten it, some photos are fuzzy and we want to make it clear, sometimes we want to cut the photo to remove the background we don't like, and sometimes we want to add text, date, etc. to the photo. IrfanView is a good tool to do these thing, not like the professional picture editing software, it is not complex, anyone can ease to use it.

• Perfect accessory to Photoshop...

  Pros

  As a master Photoshop user I don't really NEED any programs that edit photos. However, I do love the way Irfanview simplifies some of the more mundane tasks (especially just viewing images on screen, and scrolling through files in a folder). I'll often be editing images in Photoshop and use Irfanview to find another image I need if I don't recall the exact name. It's also great for batch editing (making a bunch of images smaller, renaming them, converting from/to JPG, PNG or GIF, etc.) And on one occasion when I had issues starting Photoshop, it did a good job of some straightforward photo editing tasks in a pinch. Make sure it is your DEFAULT image app! The way it interfaces with Explorer is one of it's best features!!!

  Cons

  Very small issue, but when scrolling through a folder of images, it will load any video files it comes across, and this process can take a long time. If you just want to scroll through photos quickly and you have a lot of videos and photos mixed together in the same folder, this can be a little annoying. But trust me, this is only a minor nuisance.

  Summary

  Amazing power combined with an easy-to-use interface and a very intuitive menu system makes Irfanview one of my MUST HAVE apps on every computer I use regularly.

  Pros

  I needed it because it will take a .jpg file and enable it to be used for creating a .pdf file. Then I open the .pdf file and resize image enough to print in poster format. (hope I am explaining this correctly) LOL age 77
