  I downloaded this app to convert some MKV files to AVI... it took TWO DAYS to convert 8 video files. I did it using the free version where it says the "logo" will be on the videos. It is not a logo. It is a WATERMARK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ENTIRE VIDEO that says "freemake.com To convert without Freemake Logo, use Freemake Gold Pack" That is not a logo. The videos are completely unusable and I wasted 2 days of my life waiting for them all to convert. It was complete garbage. I highly recommend to use any service but this one. Utter trash.

• A high C/P video converter

  Fast. Easy to use. Keep updated. Can add watermark. Auto-detect black bars. Support latest video formats. Lower cost for full functional features. More features than the other similar type software. Willing to hear feedback from users and making changes. No malware, virus, ads anymore (passed Symantec Endpoint Protection scan).

  Cons

  The subtitle feature is not mature but enough for most users: a. The subtitle will fail to render after the wide character '?' (but ':' is ok) is presented in the subtitle at some time (and then the rest of the video will not see any subtitle after conversion). I have sent the feedback at Mar. 2015 but still not fixed yet. b. It can only select 4 types of fonts for English letters but does not support system fonts. c. It can not specify colors, text border width, subtitle display margin.

  Summary

  It's not an exactly free software, but it's worth to purchase the Gold pack for only $9 to have the watermark-free conversion. As for Subtitle Pack, there's room to improve.

• Efficient and Simple Video Converter

  This product allows in a simple and few steps to convert videos in another format required by many devices.

  Limitations in free version of the product to be remove with paid packs.

  Summary

  Freemake Video Converter is a product that is very easy to use and still remains effective. The user interface is minimal and facilitates the use of the software. The options are small in number, not to say non-existent. They are not necessary for the application to realize why it was developed. Freemake Video Converter lets choose the output format of converted videos for many devices. This free product is artificial because the software contains limitations such as conversion speed or branding. To eliminate them you must buy packs whose price is still reasonable. Product installation is quick and easy after downloading the installer. User should just control the installation of additional products with the Freemake product. As for the support it is quite responsive and responds quickly and well to the resolution of the problem encountered. Freemake Video Converter remains my favorite tool and utility for converting videos.

• Watermarks!

  Interface is very intuitive. Doesn't seem to try to download any malware or junk software.

  Cons

  Just downloaded and immediately uninstalled. The entire video is watermarked. Saw no evidence of trying to load any malware though. Ran virus scan with Avast and found no problems.

  Summary

  They obviously are no longer 'free'. Think of this as trial software. Any Video Converter is a better free option, but you have to be careful not to download their junk software. Its a very sneaky install.

  It is not free as stated Seems to be the old bate and switch routine Plus when I tried to install the software it fails Nortons reputation test so I can assume that the Norton community has all ready tagged the software as a scam

  I have no idea what pros it has at this point. I updated the software as usual when it prompted me too (more the fool me), and when I went to use it as always, the things I wanted to do now cost money.

  Cons

  Lousy business morales. They switched their software from freeware to trialware, and are still marketing it as freeware on their homepage.

  Summary

  I sent Freemake donations in the past because I enjoyed using their free software. This kind of bait'n'switch has definitely turned me off ever using any of their software in the future. For people needing alternatives, check out https://alternativeto.net/software/freemake-video-converter/ - Go with opensource. Least likely to screw you over.

• STAY AWAY from this version

  It used to be a very light, good and effective program.

  Cons

  This current version (4.1.10.10, Sept 2017) is a trap. Every single frame of your converted video will bear their ransom notice spread wide and bold across the middle of the screen, something like "Pay us now in order to get rid of this Freemake banner:" And now for each conversion, you are also faced with having to click a few times in order to get rid of an ad for same that happens just as you tell it to convert the video. And then, finally, they now ALSO sport splash-screens at the beginning and end of your video, advertising Freemake. Looks like a last desperate attempt to cash in before they pull out of the market altogether.

  Summary

  Rename to Paymake. There is no way to get older versions now, that I could find anyway. Best not to update if you have Freemake already and it works for you, or to never get it if you never tried it. I am sorry to have to post this; I really liked their prior iterations (albeit with the trick of having to eliminate sneaky junkware added sometimes to "updates").

• A Fantastic Software

  A great FREE software that runs RINGS around all other free/ paid similar software. I use Freemake Video Converter almost everyday without any issues or complications. The soft ware is so fast and user friendly that anyone can use. I whole and solely recommend this to all.

  Cons

  There is a small fee to pay for this FANTASTIC software.

  Summary

  On the whole, in-spite of paying a small donation, I feel it is well worth its weight in gold.

• Freeware version is despicable

  Converts movies from one format to another with reasonable efficiency and speed.

  Cons

  Freeware version puts a watermark (an advertisement for the paid version) right across every frame of the movie. No warning, no hint of what is to come, nothing. And then it nags, nags, nags you to buy the paid version.

  Summary

  This is a horrible example of bait and switch, a notorious scam in which the seller offers you something nice, but delivers absolute rubbish in the hope that you will pay more money. The entire Makefree company and all its products should be boycotted. The world would be better off if they disappeared.
