• Not as good as the pre-2.3.0 versions

  I installed version 2.4.0. It can find results and quickly download them.

  Cons

  Not as user-friendly as the pre-2.3.0 versions.

  Summary

  For years, I had been using an older version of Ares galaxy. But for some reason it stopped connecting and the icon and exe file were being automatically deleted by my windows 10. I installed the 2.4.0 version of Ares and when I click the type of media that I want download, such as audio or video, the options to search by name, artist, author, genre, and size/length are no longer available. There is a single box for search and no way to filter the results. The older versions were better but no longer connect. I would like to think that the developers simply forgot those features while updating the software.

  2 years ago was a better version.

  Cons

  I installed this software on my cleanly formatted with a a clean Windows 7 install on it and I had a bundle software on my PC. It also put extensions on both of my browsers and changed my homepage on IE and Chrome to Trovi! It took me hours to get this stuff off of my clean computer. I almost wanted to reinstall all over again. Search protect, Trovi, Babylon, Conduit, Skype.

  None at all. The older version used to work well. It doesn't now. And, they will not help you if you have problems.

  Cons

  My computer crashed 3 times. Each time, Ares forced me to buy a new membership and would not recognize payments made for "lifetime" membership. Now, they've changed, so that mostly, all you can download is an advertisement, telling you to pay $10/month in order to NOT download advertisements. Their top leadership stinks as they lied about lifetime membership. And, their tech support/customer relations people also stink, as they will not reestablish your "lifetime" membership if something happens and you cannot reconnect to Ares. Instead, they force you to buy the program again and again and again and again. They all stink and their program used to be good, but now it is as worthless as the people running the business. A pox on this program and its managers, staff and employees. Worthless - all of them!

  Summary

  Ares is a rip-off. They've designed a way to keep sucking money out of your pocket by changing software to make you buy "lifetime" memberships over and over and over again. Plus, you will only download advertisements now, unless you pay them an additional $10/month. Their company is built on lies, and their owners, managers, staff and employees are all trying to rip you off. They are a totally worthless company and cannot be trusted.

  Pros

  This is NOT the real Ares I know and love. download it from their official website above. Very easy and effective search. Can search for and download from Ares itself without the need of using any torrent site. Best and fastest way to download any song. Also good for videos, software, etc. Nicely organized library. Chat channels, live T.V. feature, internet radio. You can play songs and videos while they are downloading to preview them. Helps avoid bad quality. Ares is open source software and it will always be FREE.

  Cons

  Forces you to have an ugly folder on your desktop where your downloads go. Can't put the folder anywhere else, must be in desktop.

  Summary

  Easy, fast, effective, and free. Nice extra features.

  The program appears to install fine, but ALL downloads play an advertisement for purchasing the software. Don't waste your time. This recently changed and is now useless.

  Find another program. Don't waste your time with Ares Galaxy.

  I used to be able to find video and audio files with little problem.

  Cons

  Now, when I do a search for anything, it seems I just get my search terms parroted back to me. To test this, I searched for nonsense words my kids made up. Sure enough, I was shown several "search results" available for download, in lengths from 3 minutes to over 2 hours.

  Summary

  I understand copyright issues. But Ares has become worse than useless to me, except as an interface for viewing/listening to old files. I can use Windows Media player for that.

  The Software is really nice. It installs easily. It's Easy to set up. Probably the easiest one to set I've tried. Very easy to navigate and even a novice to filesharing clients probably wouldn't even need to read a help file. It has a nice clean interface. My favorite is the Screen Tab/Function. From here you can watch online movies, Listen to radio and more! This function Works better than some of the programs out there made specifically for this purpose.

  Cons

  For me the Chat rooms aren't very good. The majority are in Spanish and filled with porn. Hardly anybody shares files. The files that are shared are usually not very good quality and usually not labeled correctly or some other problem exist. I have very good quality shares of over 10,000 items. In two days I didn't get one person trying to upload from me. Any other client and I would have people uploading in the first five minutes of going on. What are the people doing?

  Summary

  Great software, horrible sharing community. The only reason I keep this is for the screen function. I guess for file sharing however I'll keep Soulseek. When You go to a chat room and nobody is sharing files, The user avatars are partial nudes and all females are 18 or 21 years old....what's that tell you about the community? Simply a porn hub. What a shame.

  Downloads can be quick and the sorted library is nice.

  Cons

  There is a lot of child porn! DO NOT DOWNLOAD VIDEOS THAT DO NOT GIVE CLEAR DESCRIPTIONS!!! If the details on the video are not specific then DO NOT DOWNLOAD. I accidentally started downloading two videos which were HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE! Thankfully I previewed the downloads before they finished and deleted them immediately!

  Summary

  It's probably best not to use this program. There are other methods of file sharing that give a clear idea of what you are downloading!<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Feb 1, 2013<p/>Also, I don't know if the files have been "cleaned up" since my initial review (I highly doubt it) but I still advise everybody to be EXTREMELY careful of what you download on this client.
